Heidelberg Women Artists’ Prize 2025 Sarah Nemtsov: "Schatten zu" "Tikkun" Claude Debussy "Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune" Trois Nocturnes Mieczyslaw Weinberg Fantasy for Cello and Orchestra, Op. 52 SCHOLA HEIDELBERG Conductor: Walter Nußbaum Johann Aparicio Bohórquez, cello Ensemble Nikel Heidelberg Theater and Orchestra Women’s Choir Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra Musical Director: Mino Marani Recorded on February 5, 2025, at the Heidelberg Congress Center Narrator: Egbert Hiller The "Heidelberg Women Artists’ Prize" is the world’s only cultural award dedicated exclusively to women composers. It was founded in 1987 by the singer Roswitha Sperber and is now sponsored by the city. This year, the history of this significant award continued with Sarah Nemtsov. Two of her works were performed at the award winners’ concert: the world premiere of "Schatten zu" for a six-part a cappella choir, and "Tikkun," the final movement of a major cycle for ensemble and orchestra from 2021. These were accompanied by an instrumental fantasia by the Polish-Russian composer Mieczysław Weinberg, as well as Claude Debussy’s "Trois Nocturnes" and his famous "Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune," which is considered the spark that ignited musical impressionism.
