FEATURED on HÖRsPORT – the new series for uncomfortable music

Port25 Mannheim

KlangForum Heidelberg
KlangForum Heidelberg

This is not the first time that KlangForum has performed at Port25, the space for contemporary art on Mannheim’s Hafenstraße. In its new concert series dedicated to “uncomfortable” music, titled HÖRsPORT, Port25 now explores questions such as how we react to unfamiliar sounds:
"How do we perceive music that doesn’t align with our listening habits? The unfamiliar initially challenges us, unsettles us, and pushes us to the limits of our comfort zone. Anything beyond that is uncomfortable."
KlangForum, too, likes to stimulate reflection on the relationship between music and society through its own concert formats and is participating here with a program for string trio, solo voice, and electronics. Works by composers still unknown in this country (such as Örjan Sandred from Canada) are presented in the historically uncomfortable context of "degenerate" music by victims of Nazi rule, alongside modernist classics that are both challenging and subtle, such as Anton Webern’s String Trio.
