Johann Sebastian Bach still touches us and evokes the deepest emotions within us thru music and text. Central is the redemption thru death and eternal life. Loss, emptiness, and sorrow follow joy and confidence, even with Jan Dismas Zelenka. How does our time view the uniting opposites? How are they captured in music today? Old and new in a constant dialog with each other, complementing and intertwining. With Ingeborg Bachmann, Berthold Tuercke (Austrian premiere) attempts to respond contemporaneously to the great master, making the time on hold visible on the horizon. Lisa Streich's Rememory (Austrian premiere) is inspired by Toni Morrison's Beloved – and the mother who saves her child from this world of humiliation and slavery. Streich shows the beauty in the terrible. In the end, Charles Ives leaves everything seemingly unanswered in Harmony.
