Eros and Violence
– Brain, emotion, singing: Discussion about the CD “Eros and Violence,” link below
The conversation supplements and expands on the short essay by Heidelberg neurophysiologist Prof. Dr. Hannah Monyer in the bilingual booklet accompanying the new CD by SCHOLA HEIDELBERG, conducted by Walter Nußbaum, released on September 8, 2023, on the Genuin label (https://genuin.de).
“Eros und Gewalt” (Eros and Violence) contains madrigals by Don Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa (1566–1613) and Michelangelo Rossi (1601–1656), combined with recitations of the madrigal texts by actor Michael Rotschopf, as well as the 1973 work for 7 female voices “Chants” by Claude Vivier (1948–1983). The recordings were made in the summer of 2021 in the Protestant Church in Dilsberg. For more information about the CD and how to order it, see our project page
