To mark the anniversary of the collection published in Heidelberg in 1806 as Des Knaben Wunderhorn, the KlangForum Heidelberg commissioned three contemporary composers to create new arrangements (instrumentations of the songs, which Gustav Mahler had originally composed with piano accompaniment only). The songs were subsequently performed under the direction of Walter Nußbaum in Heidelberg and at venues including the Konzerthaus Berlin and in Basel, together with the chamber version of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. The soprano soloist for each performance was Ruth Ziesak.
