Since time began, humanity’s view of the cosmos has had a dual perspective: that of observation and that of projection. The oldest speculations of human inquiry have focused on the observable changes in the heavens, documented since the time of Pythagoras. Even in the pre-Socratic era, the same simple "harmonic" numerical ratios were used to describe the planets and their orbits as well as musical harmonies and intervals.
The continuation of the six-part concert series "Star Constellation: Human" takes place in collaboration with the Mannheim Planetarium, which makes it possible to appropriately “harmoniously” combine the event’s concept, form, and venue.
Built in 1984, the Planetarium has been home to the "Universarium" since 2002, an ultra-modern high-tech device capable of depicting the stars with absolute realism. The projection dome, which is normally used to convey scientific content through visualizations, now also hosts the "SPACE JAZZ Nights" series. Now the doors are also opening for “Constellation: Human” and artistic interaction with New Music.
For the second concert in this series, KlangForum has commissioned two compositions.
Works by Casper Johannes Walter (world premiere), Martin Messmer (world premiere), and others.
